These classes will institute physical distancing to the greatest extent possible. American Dance Machine
Lee (Becker) Theodore was a Broadway performer, choreographer, and director. She choreographed multiple Broadway musicals and was nominated for a Tony Award for her work on The Apple Tree. Theodore founded The American Dance Machine, a dance company which acted as a "Living Archive" of Broadway theatre dance and ran for 199 performances.
A fast-paced class inspired by Lee Theadore and Buzz Miller. Learn the basics of social dances from the1910s - 1970s that inspired musical theatre choreography like: the Maxixe, Cake Walk, Charleston, Rhumba, Cha-Cha, Salsa, Jitter-Bug, Mod, Disco - Beginning with the traditional World Dance inspired ADM Warm-Up, moving into across the floor combinations.
Level – Intermediate/Advanced (3+ years dance training in: Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Musical Theatre, or Ballroom)
Attire - Dance clothes - full movement, jazz shoes or jazz sneakers; ladies - heels optional
Age Limit: 14 - college age/pre-pro
Putting It All Together
An Evening with Adler and Ross's Pajama Game
Richard Adler and Jerry Ross were two of the greatest composers on Broadway in the 1950s. They collaborated on only two musicals due to Jerry Ross' unfortunate death. However, their works (The Pajama Game and Damn Yankees) were wildly popular, both winning a myriad of Tonys including Best Music and Best Choreography, and remain iconic to this day.
Learn the musical number "Hernando’s Hideaway!" Similar to a professional rehearsal, you will learn the music, the choreography, and character development work in ONE "rehearsal." Be prepared to sing, dance, and act all in one class!
Level – Intermediate/Advanced - at least 3 years consistent dance training in one of the following:
Attire - Dance clothes - fun movement, jazz shoes or jazz sneakers; ladies - heels optional
Age: 13 - college age
Tight Rope - A Peter Brook Inspired Workshop
Peter Brook is one of the most renowned theatre and film directors. His work as a director has earned him the colloquial title of "greatest living theatre director," and he has won two Tony awards, an Emmy, and an Olivier Award in his career thus far. He has worked with the Royal Shakespeare theatre company for many years, and is well known for his original, unconventional, and revolutionary techniques (e.g. the Tightrope).
This class is designed to help the actor work and remain "In the Moment”- to create honest and realistic theatre. Learn of the renowned director, Peter Brook, who helps his actors achieve great performances by putting them through a special exercise he developed. This class requires full physical, mental, and emotional engagement.
Come barefoot, emotionally available, and wear play clothes (comfortable, non-cumbersome, and loose).
Age: Mature 16 - college age
